¿What is a “conservative”?
By strict basic definition, someone who doesn’t like change, likes to do things the “old way,” the “traditional” way. For “conservatives,” ancestral people of the past tried all the “other options” and found that the ways of life we are currently taught are the “best” ways. This makes a lot of sense, when life is hard and mistakes can be deadly, as long as the paradigm we live in does not change. We learn from our parents and grandparents, and deeply respect their collective opinions and wisdom … or humans in general used to. In sociology and psychology, this concept of the young learning from their parents, elders, and others is unshakably stable and unarguable, and most agree it is biologically rooted in the brain. Most agree that the content of what they learn is environmentally rooted. The roots of traditionalism evolved to quell fear; however, as we shall see, this is an Achilles heel exploited to instill fear. Additionally, this traditionalist wisdom is undermined these days; as technology expands, the paradigm changes yearly, if not monthly or even weekly.
Politically speaking, a “conservative” is someone who doesn’t want the government structure to change, specifically the current worldwide structure where the rich control the world. The political use of this term comes from the French Revolution, when they overthrew the King. The “conservatives” wanted to “conserve” the underlying political and financial structure and install a new King to be their puppet, while the “liberals” wanted a new “democratic” political structure based on the power of the common people. Incidentally, they self-assembled to opposite sides of the long table where they met, and became the “political right” and “political left”, based on where they physically chose to sit.
These days, we see that in democratic societies, people who vote for political conservatives fall into two categories, or, perhaps more specifically, two tiers: the rich who want to preserve and grow their political and financial power, and, according to self-reported political polls, the undereducated mostly rural folks with a rudimentary perspective of the world. This latter group doesn’t really understand all the worldwide political complexity, and just want a “big daddy” to take care of them and “just make the system work”, the same way a typical person takes their modern computerized fuel-injected hybrid car to an auto shop these days, clueless about what might be wrong or how to fix it. This is part of the biologically-inherent/socially-ingrained aspect of the evolution of conservatism we mentioned at the beginning of this introduction. The concepts of “family mentality” with a mom, dad, and kids paradigm in psychology and sociology are well established and will not be rediscussed here; but they are the root of traditionalism as we discussed earlier. Here we see that the biologically inherent dependency on a tribal/family/clan unit’s elders found in all humans becomes the Achilles heel of the conservatives and as we are about to see through modern neuropsychology, their mal-adapted brain structure for modern society including its overwhelming size and destruction of the traditional social unit. The latter group of conservative voters also has a strong social conservative component. They typically believe their nitch group’s paradigm is the best, if not the only viable social system. It is this latter group that is vulnerable to the disorder and create the syndrome.
Ironically, we would assume the greatest tension between liberals and conservatives, but in reality, conservatives most often fight with other conservatives from other nitch groups. Jews vs. Muslims, secular vs. god-fearing, communists vs. capitalists, etc. We see throughout history, war, and violence in general, is a disagreement between conservatives.
Modern f.M.R.I. machines have given us a very very very small, but useful peak into the workings of a living human brain. The f.M.R.I. images are so complex that in the past, we could only get a generalized sense of what areas of the brain were more or less active in general under specified experimental situations. But now the modern computer hardware running modern pattern-matching algorithms can find correspondences in the data that our human eyes and older computerized analytical models simply could not see or find.
What was found is that there is a solid difference between the minds of self-described so-called “conservatives” and the minds of so-called “liberals”; that difference is at the root of sociopathy in humans. We see it literally in the structure of the brain and the neurological patterns of activity. Here we will briefly explore that concept. Here are some example studies that Google® dug out of the internet and summarized:
Ψ Functional connectivity signatures of political ideology
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9291242/published in PNAS Nexus in .
- Authors:
- Seo Eun Yang, James D. Wilson, Zhong-Lin Lu, and Skyler Cranmer.
- Method:
- Analyzed whole-brain functional connectivity during eight standard experimental tasks and resting state using an A.I. network called BrainNetCNN.
- Key Finding:
- Brain activity patterns during empathy, monetary reward, and memory tasks accurately predicted whether an individual leaned liberal or conservative — matching the predictive power of knowing a person’s parents’ political views.
- Core Regions:
- Activations in the amygdala, inferior frontal gyrus, and hippocampus showed the strongest links to political orientation.
Ψ Political Orientations Are Correlated with Brain Structure in Young Adults
https://www.cell.com/fulltext/S0960-9822(11)00289-2published in Current Biology in .
- Method:
- Unlike the 2022 Ohio State study that used A.I. to look at functional brain activity over time, the UCL researchers used structural MRI scans to measure the physical volume of gray matter in the brain.
- The “Liberal” Brain Structure:
- Individuals who self-reported liberal political views showed increased gray matter volume in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). This region is heavily involved in error detection, processing complexity, and managing conflicting information.
- The “Conservative” Brain Structure:
- Individuals with conservative views showed a larger right amygdala. The amygdala is the brain’s emotional epicenter, deeply tied to processing threat, fear, and social hierarchies.
Universal analysis of conservatives by sociology, psychology, neurobiology, etc. identifies fear as a fundamental element of their being.
Fear. All we really need to fear is fear itself. Fear is and always will be the greatest enemy of humankind. Greed stands next, and is the result of fear of loss, fear of greater powers, etc. Aggression comes from both greed and directly from fear. And violence and suffering is the end result. As was said, war is a disagreement between conservatives. We have already identified these core principles for several millennia in various philosophies and theologies worldwide, and more recently in modern psychology, and we have declared them everything from “dangerous” to “disease”. We will not be providing a summary of this concept here, it is widely available elsewhere.
This root of fear is defined in two dimensions: fear of change and fear of unfamiliar people, the latter of which is the predominant problem. It may seem at first glance that fear of “others” is just a subset of fear of change, but it is more, and now we see it seems to have biological roots, as researched by cognitive/social psychologist Mark Schaller, and his well-established and scientifically-documented theory of the “Behavioral immune system”. We will not repeat these findings here; the reader may find them elsewhere and is greatly encouraged to do so.
These days fear is becoming more and more prominent and conservative authoritarianism is spreading like a meme across the world:
- Decline In Democracy Spreads Across The Globe As Authoritarian Leaders Rise
- Why Is Authoritarianism Surging Worldwide?
Twilight of Democracy author says the autocrats are winning
We see that the two tiers of conservatives keep the violence spreading, as the first tier manipulates the second tier through fear. This constant message of fear creates unmanageable imbalances in the neural-networks of the brains and the operation of the minds of clearly identifiable conservatives —voters, creating disease, both in a psychiatric sense and a sociological sense. We have a name for this disease; we call it the “Conservative Complex Derangement Disorder” as it pertains to an individual, and correspondingly, “Conservative Complex Derangement Disorder Pervasive Syndrome”, or C.C.D.D.P.S. for short, as it pertains to society in general. That is, we identify a specific complex of disease symptoms found universally in conservatives, with deep-seated generalized internalized unfounded and paranoid fear being the singular core root, that the secondary tier of “conservatives” suffer from that causes their deranged concepts of reality and society. They become highly submissive to authority, become aggressive and even terrorize “others” in the name of the authority figures, and become conformist in thought and behavior; this is well documented elsewhere, and will not be explored here. This specific complex of disease symptoms are spreading throughout society, creating a sickness in Humanity itself.
Back to our original question, “¿what is a conservative?”. We see that it is not the polar opposite or contrary philosophy or diametric plan or antithetical values, versus a “liberal”. Liberalism is founded in the concept of liberation from shadow knowledge, and flowers into freedom for the individual and a social value system of peace and harmony. A Liberal Arts University aims for general complete knowledge as the Greeks defined for our Western Society, and is based in the logical thinking of Geometry and Mathematics, as taught by Plato.
- Ignorance — when the mind does not know there is anything worth knowing.
- Opinion — the level of which talk-shows are forever stuck, divided into two (2) subcategories: correct opinion and wrong opinion.
- Reason — through education and study, the person is prepared for advancement into the next stage. But the advancement is not guaranteed.
- Intelligence — this level can only be achieved on your own; a level of heightened or true understanding.
We must emphasize here that liberalism as we speak of it is not libertarianism,
which is just multinational corporate-conservatives on booze, cocaine, pharmies, and other drugs☺
Conservativism is a conglomeration of different value systems
all woven with the common threads of “traditionalism” and “fear”.
A liberal from the U.S. by definition values the same basic set of
social and political ideals — freedom and power of the people — as from any other country.
It has been, still is said Anyone who would give up even an inch of freedom in exchange for security
deserves neither freedom nor security
.
In the U.S.,
a political “conservative voter” values their right to own a gun to
protect themselves and the right to free speech because that is the “tradition”,
yet these are truly “liberal” values intended to protect the population from “threats within the government”.
In Iran, “conservatives” prohibit gun ownership and free speech.
In Japan, “conservatives” prohibit guns and value free speech.
Being a “conservative” is not a universal political ideology, it is a psychological profile, backed by diseased, malformed, and/or aberrant biological systems in the brain creating fear, and one that shows clear and definite imbalances that create disease in the mind of individuals as well as the harmony of society.
From time constraints, there is so much we left out here that is important to understand for further analysis, but these are the vital aspects that are required to begin to discuss this topic. Discussions regarding details and deeper analysis are always welcome, particularly scientifically based counter-arguments as we have heard of none at this juncture in time. We know that mixing politics with psychology has been a low-brow trick that conservatives have used for years to attack their critics, but here we are basing our theory on solid empirical scientific objective peer-reviewed biological evidence, not some weak pseudo-Freudian twisted snide analysis. All of the basic previous research creating the foundation for our latest proposal has been available for decades now, much of it online.
